Contact Dermatitis
Contact dermatitis is an inflammatory reaction from direct contact with an irritant or allergen. It is one of the most common occupational skin diseases.
Symptoms
Red, itchy rash at the site of contact with well-defined borders. Allergic forms may blister; irritant forms cause dryness and cracking. Reactions appear hours to days after exposure.
Causes and risk
Irritant causes include soaps, solvents, and wet work. Allergic causes include nickel, fragrance, preservatives, and poison ivy. Pre-existing eczema increases risk.

History and rash distribution guide diagnosis. Patch testing identifies specific allergens. We test a standardized panel plus any workplace or personal products.
Treatment
